Weekend’s art link: The Shipping Forecast.

It is Saturday -finally! Today the link for art is a project of Mark Power that I first saw it through Magnum Photos site.  The shipping forecast project of Mark Power began almost three decades ago and it is based on the forecast (of British institution) that broadcasts four times a day on BBC Radio 4. It splits the waters of Western Europe into 31 sea areas encompassing the UK, from Dover to Southeast Iceland to German Bight. Beyond its practical and still-crucial use to mariners it is also listened to by millions of people who tune in simply to hear the soft, measured cadences of the voices that present it day after day.

Mark Power looked and delivered incredible pictures of visual metaphors of the broadcasting itself. Those pictures as so powerful and yet poetic, emphasizing  on the imposing landscape of the sea and how it is imposed on human everyday life. I am completely blown away by the beauty of the pictures so I am sharing some of the photos and the link above to see more. Enjoy!
